Continuing with yesterday’s MPSE nominations, today we have the CAS nominations. So yesterday was the sound editors and today is the sound mixers. Both of which, along with BAFTA, will tell us what’s most likely to get nominated in the now-singular Best Sound category.
Not much else to add there, so let’s see what they nominated:
Best Sound Mixing
Greyhound
Mank
News of the World
Sound of Metal
The Trial of the Chicago 7
News of the World has now hit everything there is to hit thus far, precursor-wise, as has Sound of Metal. Those two seem like locks. Greyhound has hit all the important stuff (Music isn’t as important as the other three). Chicago 7 now has three of four nominations, and Mank picks up a big one. Midnight Sky did well with MPSE and misses here and same for Tenet. I wanna see what BAFTA does now. That’ll tell me what’s most likely to get left off. Because my guess is that you’ve got three locks (News of the World, Sound of Metal and Chicago 7) and three others vying for the final two spots (Greyhound, Mank, Tenet). So BAFTA’s gonna be important in trying to figure out what those final two are gonna be.
Best Sound Mixing – Animation
The Croods: A New Age
A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon
Onward
Soul
Trolls World Tour
No real surprises there. The same general list of things I’d expect. As I’ve said all along — the only interest in this category is in the nominations stage, since we already know what’s gonna win this.
